“My #1 album of 2007 so far! Beautiful, lush, orchestrated indie-pop from new 2 boy, 2 girl LA 4-piece” – Aaron Axelsen: Live 105
I just couldn't resist a quote from Live 105's DJ. I used to listen to Live 105 in the Bay Area growing up. Oh the memories...
Back to the task at hand: Great Northern. In their first track, Our Bleeding Hearts, they question, "Doesn't it make you feel good?" I would have to 100% agree, YES! The beautiful mix between the male/female voice is wonderful. The songwriting is powerful. I already have several favorite songs, but one that really catches my ear is, "Low is a Height." The lush vocals over the repetitive chord changes makes for one of those songs that you want to repeat over and over. It brings you to a state of reflection and emotion that most songs don't even touch. This happens over and over on this CD.
Great Northern's Trading Twilight for Daylight reaches stores on May 15th. For now, while you are waiting for the full album, check out The Middle.
