New Tunes Tuesday #20

I have to admit that I'm a huge musical fan. Huge. Now, this shouldn't discredit me in any way since musical theatre is one of America's true art forms. South Pacific, one of musical theatre's best, is finally getting a revival on Broadway. Critics have not stopped giving this revival positive accolades. Kelli O'Hara, nominated for a Tony for her role as Nellie Forbush, was written up in the New York Times as, "...receptive not just to the serious charms of Emile (the seriously charming Mr. Szot) but to those of the lush landscape in which she finds herself. Ms. O’Hara, whose lovely soprano is never merely lovely here, creates a study in ambivalence that is both subtly layered and popping with energy." We are thinking utter brilliance. This show will win the Tony for Best Revival and you get a chance to listen to the beauty on CD (and for only $9.99 - WHAT A STEAL!) I've already bought my copy and will be looking forward to getting it in the mail this week. You should do the same.

Another musical! Can you believe it? It's right before the Tony's and everyone wants to win, so there's always a slew of musical recordings that come out right before. Now, I don't know a lot about A Catered Affair except some amazing people are in it: Faith Prince, Tom Wopat and Harvey Fierstein. Let me know what you think. I would be interested in hearing about it.
