Tonight in Rock: Jay Brannan @ Bottom of the Hill

Native Texan, Jay Brannan has continued to leave his mark on the musical world since he took up residency in New York City five years ago (after a brief stint in L.A. and Palm Springs). He's passing by artists including Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie, and Beck on the iTunes Top Albums Chart as his debut album goddamned becomes the #26 Top Downloaded Album on the first day it was released. Accomplished? Almost; he's definitely working on it. Listen to him sing "Can't Have it All" here.

Some notable accomplishments:
  • his song "Soda Shop" featured on the soundtrack for acclaimed film Shortbus and was #1 downloaded song, released on Conor Oberst's Team Love label
  • has sold out venues in Cape Town, Tel Aviv, London, Paris, Toronto, Vancouver, and NYC WITHOUT ever releasing an album
  • his EP Unmastered has sold over 30,000 tracks through iTunes
  • debut album, goddamned, produced by Will Golden (Meiko, Michelle Branch, Ian Ball - Gomez)
Jay Brannan will be headlining the Bottom of the Hill tonight, July 24th. (Though we did hear that his plane was severely delayed yesterday so hopefully he got here okay!) Get tickets here.

Let us know if you go and how'd you like it. Even better, if you do go, let us know and we'll post your review with pictures/videos that you take.
