The Thursday Edition

This week I'm going to focus on one new album from an artist that I think is down to earth and genuine with his lyrics and music. This gentleman would be none other than Matisyahu.

Fellow Brooklynite, Matisyahu, is coming out with his latest album this week, Shattered. Matisyahu is a Jewish rapper and his music is heavily influenced by reggae, hip-hop and rock. His lyrics are meaningful and interesting; it's always nice to have a rapper sing/speak about real issues. "Smash Lies" (which you can download for free here) is his current single and it's a faster paced song than some of his other work. He also uses a little more of his hip-hop influence in it, which gives it an interesting sound. Matisyahu is defnitely an artist that you should know about and if you haven't been following his work, this is as good a time as any!
