Mp3 of the Day: French Miami "Science Fiction" and "The God Damn Best"

French Miami's live shows have inspired both acclamation and exaltary obscenities, but distribution of their material for posterity has been (and will be) limited until the release of their debut Science Fiction EP on November 18. Though the arrangement of two concurrently multi-instrumentalist guitarists and keyboardists beside a powerfully stabilizing drummer is inevitably reminiscent of Don Caballero sans bassist plus baritone guitar, they have innovatively furthered the capacities of such a sound with an amicably festive aspect and vocals that can sound like Ian Curtis singing for the never-realized Don Cab vocalist spot.

"The God Damn Best" demonstrates French Miami's choral yet seemingly casual lyrical style and amalgam of oddly-timed guitars, cogent drums and synth fuzz. "Science Fiction" proves their ability to apply these talents to the sort of technically striking, effectively exciting song not heard with regularity for at least a very long time, and songs newly available on their MySpace only increase my urge to hear more.
