I think that this week, the Twilight soundtrack takes the cake. Twilight, the newest vampire book turned feature film comes out November 21, 2008, but it's star-studded and rocking soundtrack hits stores this week. Paramore is featured on the soundtrack with two new songs, both sure-fire billboard hits. Paramore's "Decode" seems to have become the official song of the movie. Like their other hits, it's catchy and unique. They really dig into their alternative rock roots and lead singer, Hayley Williams' voice does not disappoint. Because of the dramatic nature of the movie, all the songs on the soundtrack have a similar vibe. The soundtrack also features Linkin Park and Collective Soul among various other artists. A good soundtrack doesn't always accompany a good film, but it definitely helps to get you through a bad one. (Hopefully this isn't the case with Twilight.)This soundtrack is a winner, whether or not the movie is, it's still too early to tell.
Although many people may only know Switchfoot for their more recent hits such as "Dare You to Move" and "Meant to Live," the band has been making records since 1996. This week, Switchfoot will release The Best Yet, a greatest hits album. The album has collected their hits since their first record in 1997 The Legend of Chin up to their most recent album Oh! Gravity, which came out in 2006. Greatest hits albums are hard to review because they are just that: the greatest of the particular band. If you are a fan of Switchfoot, from back in the day or not, this is probably a good album to get your hands on because it's the best of the best.
Other notable albums out this week:
Ode to J. Smith - Travis

I am a huge Switchfoot fan but I will tell you that no album will ever beat New Way To Be Human. (Maybe you have heard of it). It did not have the electrifying mainstream, radio friendly hits but its unique sound and unpredictability makes it one of the best albums ever. You don't know how many times I have gone wow what an interesting use of an instrument listening to it. Though I do love The Best Yet. I will say though, they need to go back to those days or at least The Beautiful Letdown because Oh Gravity was way to mainstream.
